Large, major metropolitan hospital experiencing high employee turnover and decreased productivity. CS004

Situation

Preiser Consultants was retained by a major metropolitan hospital to customize and implement an organizational development program for a 260 member Information Technology division.

Post-assessment, the causes for high employee turnover and decreased productivity in this division were identified as:

  • low trust
  • ineffective communications
  • lack of interdepartmental collaboration
  • lack of individual staff development
  • absence of organizational metrics for problem solving
  • perception of unfair treatment within the division

Interventions

  • To establish baseline performance, Preiser Consultants administered 360 muti-rater assessments of the leadership team, emotional intelligence assessments, and DiSC type indicator assessments.
  • An organizational survey was designed to solicit input from all associates.
  • An internal and external video and web-based newsletter was developed.
  • A performance dashboard indicating division-wide departmental metrics was developed and aligned with the mission statement to promote transparency.
  • Facilitated the development of an ITAG (IT Advocacy Group) made up of a cross section of delegates from every perspective of the division.

Results

Employee turnover rate was reduced (from 22% to 11%); meaningful increases in productivity in key indicator areas were reported; and division-wide anecdotal reports of increased feelings of general well-being and higher indices of trust and equity.
